Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
Consulting with companies about people and performance started in 1978, but since 1993, my focus has been on leading team building events and selling my games and other engagement tools to other consultants and trainers, worldwide. I am very selective insofar as the engagements I deliver these days.
What is your primary product or service?
The main focus is impacting people and results, most commonly issues of productivity but also around engagement and quality. I believe that "Nobody ever washes a rental car" and that active involvement and alignment to shared goals are the key to any successful initiative. So, we sell tools like Square Wheels illustrations and also sell a variety of team building games, used to generate innovation and creativity.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
My father owned his own business, so my focus has always been on the entrepreneur, it would seem. Graduating college in 1970 and in the midst of the Vietnam craziness, I stayed in school, earning a doctorate in behavioral neurophysiology / psychology, I was a former professor at Furman in the mid-70s and am on the Executive Development faculty. Generating exemplary performance results would go back to me in high school, I guess. Teaching, training and development have always been a primary interest of mine, from our high school championships in athletics to overall performance in organizations.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
My materials are totally unique in the world. Seriously! There are no other products remotely similar to my Square Wheels illustrations for engaging and involving people (workers or managers) in process improvement initiatives. My team building games such as The Search for The Lost Dutchman's Gold Mine, are all world class, used my Fortune 100 companies in addition to independent consultants.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
I work out of my home (since 1998) and would have it no other way. Being a two-person company is my ideal work situation and it has been that way since my ex-wife and business partner started PMC back in 1984.
Provide detailed directions to your location
Not much else in these questions is too relevant. I am easily reached, accept any form of payments, work with schools, public sector and small and multinational businesses globally. Like a lot of home businesses, my hours are, "any time!"
What type of payments do you accept?
Yes.
Which areas do you service?
Literally, globally. I have presented in 40 countries since the late 1990s.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
Me.
What are your hours of operation?
Always.
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
That what we did changed people's attitudes and performance and that the efforts generated more teamwork, engagement and collaboration. Measureable results and impacts are my desired outcomes, always.
What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?
"Nobody ever washes a rental car."
"The Round Wheels of today are the Square Wheels of tomorrow."
"Don't just DO Something, Stand There!" (get perspective)
